For so long I have wanted a refurbished Gramophone or Victrola … I love it’s hollow echo and crackles. Especially nice (in my daydream) on a warm summer night with the breeze passing through … (Oh, this is an old farmhouse with creaky wood floors and there is some dashing man, probably Robert Redford… hmm, no, let’s make it Christian Bale. So Christian is in town with National Geographic magazine – or no, to build a field of dreams – wait … he’s a drama teacher at the HS and I just faked my drowning to escape my evil husband and start over.here … Well, I just hope this doesn’t end up being David Lynch’s, Inland Empire (it began with a gramophone shot) Oh forget the daydream… !!
This certainly isn’t as good as the original but if you have more modern sensibilities you might like this. (I…still want the original)

There is also this modern interpretation of a victrola by Ben Blanc It doubles as a liquor cabinet

** This was the song that inspired this daydream … a modern day song (It’s Raining // Room Eleven) but would sound enchanting on an old player.

“4. Thusday Afternoon. Brian Eno’s music piece entitled Thursday Afternoon (1984) was originally recorded for a video of the same name. It is a representative example of Eno´s ambient music which the composer has once described as “music to swim in, to float in, to get lost inside.” Lasting 61 minutes Thursday Afternoon is a spacious, bright tapestry of sound created by layering several musical events that recur each within cycles of differing length.
On the inner sleeve of one of his first ambient records Music for Airports (1978) Eno described his intentions with this kind of music:
[I] have become interested in the use of music as ambience, and have come to believe that it is possible to produce material that can be used thus without being in any way compromised…An ambience is defined as an atmosphere, or a surrounding influence: a tint. My intention is to produce original pieces ostensibly (but not exclusively) for particular times and situations with a view to building up a small but versatile catalogue of environmental music suited to a wide variety of moods and atmospheres…Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular: it must be as ignorable as it is interesting. Ambient music, music as furniture, music to live in.
Ambient music in Eno´s sense allows us but does not force us to listen. It creates a space in which to see our environment in a new enhanced calm. It gives us space to think and experience.”

“The story of reVerse
In November 2001, I decided to create a poetry and music compilation CD that was artistic, enjoyable, high quality and ultimately very listenable. Thinking of the alternative music CD series from the late 80s called “Just Say Yes”, I thought that a poetry and music CD might help bring some much-needed attention to the ‘alternative’ art forms of poetry and songwriting. I asked Richard Fammerée to help with the project and reVerse was born.
As life-long fans of poetry, we knew creating such a compilation would be difficult. More often than not, the beauty of poetry does not translate in recordings of poetry. However, this challenge was what we most relished. And, as Executive Director of the Poetry Center, I wanted to create an example of how board members of The Poetry Center and other poets and supporters could include The Poetry Center as the charitable cause of their side poetry projects, literary magazines and etc.
n early 2002 I secured an investor for the project, and we started to approach artists who represented a range of styles and artistic accomplishment. We believed that featuring a range of emerging and established poets and musicians was of utmost importance to achieve our goals. With the exception of finding an accomplished musician with a weakness for poetry to contribute a performance of an original poem, the artists roster was complete by the end of the year …
… We hope that you will buy a copy of reVerse. It has integrity and it is entertaining. It might be a little dark at times, but it is delightfully light-hearted at others. All the moments are beautiful.
